I was SO excited when I found out that Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson was mounting a show at the Chateau de Versailles this summer. As it were, I had seen his solo show ‘Nothingness is not nothing at all’ at the Long Museum in Shanghai and absolutely loved it. It was a happy coincidence then that my travel plans would take me to Versailles for a dear friend’s wedding, just in time for me to catch the exhibition.
I found Eliasson's 'interventions' at Versailles an intriguingly different experience from the solo show. Rather than a deep dive into Eliasson’s own world, this time it was his response to another universe - the royal palace of Louis XIV and a celebrated landmark in its own right - and his reflections upon it. It’s a dialogue across time and space.
